Ketchup Saturdays was originally designed by CISDR to offer a dynamic way for students to “catch up” in certain school subjects while increasing self-confidence and motivation to complete coursework and improve grades. In the span of both the Fall and Spring semesters, CISDR brings students to one of two sites for one-on-one academic tutoring and small group learning activities led by CISDR professionals with expertise in math, science, and language arts.
The alternative learning environment helps bolster the students’ creativity, and the provision of transportation and lunch keeps the children focused and parents assured. Parents are also incorporated into the Ketchup Saturdays model to reinforce learning at home.
Ketchup Saturday is a year-long project sponsored by the Target Foundation, with support from Dollar General and Junior League of Dallas.
