CISDR Site Coordinator Emily Yount recently organized a school-wide Basic & Essential Needs drive for students and families at Wilson Middle School in Plano. Because of the generosity of the Wilson community, CISDR was able to serve more than 20 Wilson families and provide them each with 3 boxes of assorted food, 1 bag of microwavable meals and snacks that students could cook themselves, and toiletry bags filled with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and more!
After the winter storm and this hard pandemic year, these 20 families appreciated having one less thing to worry about. Thanks to two 7th grade students, CISDR was also able to deliver more than 20 full hygiene bags to C3 partner City House, to provide for people dealing with homelessness.
Thank you to all of the Wilson faculty who put boxes in their room and collected items, with a special thanks to:
- Ms. Neal’s class (1,000+ items donated)
- Ms. Pools class (400+ items donated)
- Mr. Hollingsworth’s class (170+ items donated)
CISDR staff would like to give a special thanks to Gerri Goodspeed and her PALS for helping with organization and pickup of the food items, Officer Faustmann for helping sort and deliver food to eight families who were unable to come to the school to pick them up, our own CISDR students for putting together kits for the homeless shelter and decorating signs, and Mr. Howard for having some of his students do some heavy lifting. We would also like to give a “special shout out” to our local community partners the Store House, who provided us with many food and toiletry items, as well as the Chick-Fil-A on Plano Parkway, who helped support give our students a great prize! Thank you to everyone at Wilson for being #AllInForKids!
