As Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region enters its 40th year of service in 2025, the organization will have new leadership to guide its mission. Adam Powell will be leaving CIS for a new opportunity, effective January 10. Dr. Summer Rose, current Chief Clinical Officer, will assume the Interim CEO position at that time. Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region Names Interim CEO

Dr. Summer Rose to Follow Adam Powell During Executive Leadership Transition

DALLAS – December 9, 2024– The Board of Directors of Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region announced today that Dr. Summer Rose has been named Interim CEO of the organization following Adam Powell’s upcoming departure to lead United Way of Tarrant County.

With a career in the nonprofit sector that spans more than 16 years, Dr. Rose has made a significant impact in improving educational equity and supporting underserved communities. As the Chief Clinical Officer for Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region since 2022, she has been instrumental in leading initiatives that address critical needs, including mental health support. Her attention to data-driven strategies and community engagement has been pivotal to the success and long-term sustainability of the North Texas nonprofit.

Dr. Rose, a long-time resident of Dallas, has also held significant leadership roles across a range of flagship organizations, including Momentous Institute, where she served as the Assessment Director, the supervisor of the Early Childhood Assessment Team and was an integral leader in expanding program services to the Southern Dallas sector.

Dr. Rose earned a Masters of Arts and Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Chicago Campus. She embarks upon her leadership of Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region as the organization approaches its 40th year of service to the region in 2025.

“I am deeply honored to step into this important role for Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region and to work alongside our dedicated Board of Directors and staff, as we continue to serve our students and drive impact for the Dallas community,” said Dr. Rose.

During Powell’s leadership at the organization since 2019, he focused on expanding support for at-risk students by enhancing mental health services and meeting basic needs, helping to create a stronger foundation for student success across the region. 

About Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region

The mission of Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region (CIS) is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS was founded in 1985 to improve the high school dropout rate in the Dallas area by providing academic, attendance, basic needs, and other supports to students in local public schools. Today, in partnership with 11 school districts, CIS serves more than 100 Elementary, Middle, and High School campuses to serve 10,000 students who have been labeled “at-risk.”
